For today, the forecast for severe weather has shifted more northeast. This makes nearly the entire state of Tennessee in the ENHANCED RISK.

Shown in the graphic above from the Storm Prediction Center, much of the south will have storms today, but the main focus is on Alabama through the Tennessee Valley.

There will be strong storms advancing through Tennessee today heading into the afternoon and evening. These storms have the potential to have strong damaging winds, as well as the possibility for some tornadoes.

According to the Storm Prediction Center’s discussion this morning, the atmosphere has been pretty persistent on the moisture levels, which gives a greater chance of stronger activity. In order to have a nice setup for severe weather, you need moisture, a great sense of instability in the atmosphere and you need lifting from the air.

Please remain weather aware throughout the day and have a Happy New Year!
